Town Honours Margaret Mooy as 2026 Ontario Senior of the Year Recipient

Each June, Ontario’s Seniors Month provides an opportunity to celebrate the remarkable contributions, leadership, and dedication of older adults across the province. In Collingwood, that spirit was exemplified through the recognition of Margaret Mooy, whose lifelong commitment to community service continues to inspire.

“Margaret’s ongoing contributions, her dedication to preserving our heritage, and her unwavering commitment to this community continue to inspire all of us,” said Mayor Yvonne Hamlin during the presentation. “On behalf of the Town of Collingwood, we thank her for everything she does to make our community such a special place.”



Margaret Mooy is widely known for her engaging, generous, and passionate involvement in the community. Her contributions have positively impacted countless residents and have strengthened the fabric of Collingwood in meaningful and lasting ways.

A defining element of Margaret’s work is her deep passion for heritage conservation. Through her dedication, she has played a vital role in preserving and promoting Collingwood’s rich history. Her efforts have helped ensure that the stories, character, and historic places that shape the community are not only protected but also celebrated for future generations.

Council recognized Margaret’s enduring commitment to service at today’s meeting, where she had been invited without prior knowledge of the occasion. Upon receiving the invitation, her immediate response was to check her schedule, reflecting a life that remains active, purposeful, and dedicated to giving back, qualities that exemplify the spirit of the Ontario Senior of the Year Award.
