The Town of The Blue Mountains would like to inform the public of wastewater overflow and bypass events that occurred on Monday, June 30, 2025. At approximately 7:30 p.m., the Mill Street Sewage Pumping Station located at 18 Bay Street East started an overflow event. At approximately 7:30 p.m., a maintenance hole located at the western end of Cottage Avenue started bypassing raw sewage. Both events were a result of excessive rainfall contributing to increased flows. The area saw a total of 85mm of precipitation between 4:19 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 30. The overflow has bypassed into the Beaver River.
The Town’s Wastewater Operators collected samples at the beginning of each event and will continue sampling until the events have concluded. The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has been notified of both incidents, and a message has been left with Grey Bruce Public Health. Town staff continue to work with contractors to mitigate the impacts of the rainfall.
