🇨🇦 COLLINGWOOD OPP URGES SAFE DRIVING AHEAD OF CANADA DAY WEEKEND
(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – As the Canada Day holiday period approaches, members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding motorists to make road safety a top priority.
With increased traffic expected throughout the region, officers are urging all drivers to follow the rules of the road and make responsible choices behind the wheel.
During the Canada Day holiday period, members of the OPP will be increasing patrols and conducting proactive enforcement. Motorists can expect to see a heightened police presence on local roads, highways, and surrounding areas as officers focus on keeping the public safe.
Wearing a seatbelt is not optional, it is a legal requirement and one of the most effective ways to reduce serious injury or death in the event of a collision. Police will be paying close attention to behaviours that put lives at risk, including impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and speeding.
Making responsible decisions behind the wheel helps ensure that everyone gets to their destination safely.
If you suspect someone is driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, call 9‑1‑1. If you have information about suspected unlawful activity, please contact the OPP at 1‑888‑310‑1122, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1‑800‑222‑8477 (TIPS) or www.crimestopperssdm.com.
