✅ Candidate for Deputy Mayor Mike Foley | A Few Questions?

✅ Candidate for Deputy Mayor Mike Foley | A Few Questions?

Thank you, Mike, for sharing your perspective on the Wasaga Beach community.

Q.1 You’ve spoken of the need for greater accountability; please explain how the current council did not meet reasonable expectations, and exactly what you would do to ensure the next council is more accountable?

I will push for council to publish project costs, funding sources, and alternatives before major votes. I will advocate for a public register tracking council commitments, project budgets and deadlines, with quarterly progress reports explaining delays or cost overruns. I will work with council to provide more opportunities for residents to speak at council meetings before decisions are made and for clear public explanations when decisions are made. Residents deserve answers before, not excuses afterward.

Q.2 When you talk about the need for greater transparency, could you explain why this is a need and exactly how you would go about improving it?

Transparency means residents deserve to know how decisions are made and how their tax dollars are spent. I will work with the council to publish project costs and alternatives before major votes, provide quarterly reports on budgets and council commitments, and create more opportunities for public input. Confidentiality must be limited to legally necessary matters. This is your town, your money, and your future—you deserve answers.

Q.3 It’s clear you want both business and residents to be more involved in the decision-making process… Could you explain what you mean by that and how you would go about implementing this greater involvement?

Residents and businesses deserve a voice before decisions are made, not after council votes. I will push for regular public forums, business roundtables, online surveys and early consultation on major developments, budgets and infrastructure projects. Council should report back on the feedback received and explain how it influenced decisions. Community input must lead to meaningful consideration, not simply consultation.
