๐ COLLINGWOOD OPP AND SAVE TEAM CONDUCT ENFORCEMENT OF OFF-ROAD ELECTRIC DIRT BIKES

(COLLINGWOOD, ON)ย โ The Collingwood and Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in partnership with the OPP Snowmobile, ATV and Vessel Enforcement (SAVE) Team, recently conducted joint patrols throughout the Town of Collingwood and the Town of The Blue Mountains in response to community concerns regarding the unsafe operation of off-road electric dirt bikes.
Officers conducted proactive patrols focused on both rider education and enforcement. During the initiative, police issued a combination of warnings and charges to riders aged 16 years and older, as well as warnings and charges to parents or guardians of riders under the age of 16.
The OPP reminds residents that off-road vehicles, including electric dirt bikes, are prohibited from operating on municipal streets, sidewalks, community parks, and trails within the Town of Collingwood and the Town of The Blue Mountains. These vehicles may only be operated on privately owned or occupied property where permission has been granted.
Riders choosing to operate these vehicles legally should ensure they:
- Wear a DOT-approved helmet;
- Register the vehicle with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), where required;
- Display the appropriate license plate;
- Obtain valid off-road vehicle insurance; and
- Ride only in locations where off-road vehicle use is permitted
For those looking to enjoy off-road riding responsibly, the Ontario Federation of Trail Riders provides access to thousands of kilometers of maintained off-road trails throughout the province.
The OPP remains committed to promoting the safe and lawful operation of off-road vehicles while enhancing public safety. Anyone with concerns regarding unlawful off-road vehicle operation is encouraged to report incidents to police through the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.
