Midhurst/May 28, 2026 – June is Seniors Month in Ontario, and the County of Simcoe celebrates the older adults who continue to shape our communities and contribute to the social, cultural, and economic vitality of our region. With more than 1,000 older adults supported across County-managed Long‑Term Care and Seniors Services campuses and programs, the County remains committed to fostering vibrant, inclusive, and age‑friendly communities where seniors can thrive.

Throughout June, County Long‑Term Care homes and Seniors Services locations will host a variety of celebrations and activities, including concerts, cultural events, intergenerational programs, and community gatherings.

Seniors Month also highlights the County’s continued investment in positive aging. From the redevelopment of Simcoe Village in Beeton, which will offer expanded housing and support options, to the implementation of the refreshed Positive Aging Strategy 2025–2030, the County continues to respond to the evolving needs of older adults through evidence‑informed planning, community partnerships, and innovative programs.

As part of its commitment to supporting older adults and those who care for them, the County of Simcoe is highlighting its Caregiver Rest & Renewal Program. Caregivers play an essential role in helping loved ones remain healthy, connected, and supported. The Caregiver Rest & Renewal Program highlights the two short‑stay respite beds offered at each of the County’s Long-Term Care homes – Georgian Manor (Penetanguishene), Simcoe Manor (Beeton), Sunset Manor (Collingwood), and Trillium Manor (Orillia). These stays, which are coordinated through Ontario Health atHome, provide caregivers with the opportunity to rest, recharge, and attend to personal needs while their loved one receives attentive, professional care in a safe and welcoming environment.

“Our seniors are the foundation of our communities – our mentors, innovators, caregivers, and leaders”, said Warden Basil Clarke. “During Seniors Month, we celebrate their contributions and reaffirm our commitment to supporting their health, independence, and quality of life. We also recognize the role of caregivers and offer programs like the Caregiver Rest & Renewal Program, which provides meaningful support to those who give so much of themselves.”
